Master Thesis – Computational Modeling of Chemical Reactions – Plasma Etching (f/m/div)

You can find the complete job posting here.

#WeAreIn to create tiny chips and big careers. Are you ready to take the first step in your career? Let’s shape the future together! Whether you join as a student, intern, or trainee, you’ll be part of something real – real projects, real impact, and real opportunities to grow. Are you in?

Your Role

Key responsibilities in your new role:

Infineon drives decarbonization and digitalization for a greener future with innovative semiconductor solutions. One important process in the production of semiconductors is plasma etching, in which active chemical species produced in a plasma are used to remove material from the wafer surface. You will be involved in the computer modeling of the many chemical reactions taking place in a plasma.

  • Knowledge expansion: Acquire up-to-date knowledge on the numerical modeling of chemical reactions in silicon tetrafluoride (SiF4) plasmas in the presence of oxygen (O2)
  • Experience research: Calculate electronic reaction rates using existing software (e.g. BOLSIG) and obtain computationally efficient analytical equivalent expressions
  • Scientific work: Collect, analyze and compile relevant chemical reactions between heavy particles from the scientific literature
  • Scientific experiments: Implement the time variation of space-averaged compiled chemical reactions using general-propose software (e.g. COMSOL Multiphysics). Furthermore, you execute sensitivity studies to analyze the development of chemical species in SiF4/O2 plasmas under different physical conditions
  • Scientific writing: Document your results in writing and submitting your Master Thesis

Your Profile

Qualifications and skills to help you succeed:

  • Study field: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Engineering Master program, having already completed all of your exams
  • Skills: Proven experience applying mathematics/physics/chemistry knowledge in computer numerical models (beyond course work)
  • Interests: Strong ambition for computer simulation
  • Experience: Solid programming (MATLAB, Python or other language) experience as well as ideally experience in COMSOL Multiphysics
  • Personality: Very good communication skills and the ability to organize your work in a very structured way
  • Language skills: Fluent English skills, both written and spoken, German would be a plus

Please attach the following documents to your application:

  • CV in English
  • Certificate of enrollment at university
  • Excerpt of the study regulations for the thesis (if applicable)
  • Latest grades transcript (not older than 6 months)
  • High school report
